A months-long standoff between the Jets and their star netminder ended in a move on Friday, with the Canes swooping in as his suspension was ending on Friday.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been traded to the New Jersey Devils rather than the Carolina Hurricanes, ending a months-long standoff with the Winnipeg Jets. In exchange, the Devils sent forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goalie Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command, and two draft picks to Winnipeg in a permanent deal.
Writer Ben Huffman notes that while Carolina made an offer, missing out on Hellebuyck is manageable given the high acquisition cost. Huffman believes the decision reflects front-office confidence in Hurricanes netminders Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov.
