When Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III was in high school, pulmonary emboli almost ended his football career before it even began. It was only after extensive treatment for over a year that he was cleared to return…

Kenneth Walker III called the Philadelphia Eagles' decision to let quarterback Jalen Hurts fly with a blood clot "crazy." Walker, who battled pulmonary emboli during high school, offered encouragement and prayers for Hurts, emphasizing that blood clot risks should never be taken lightly. Hurts was sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after a superficial calf clot migrated to his lungs, causing bilateral pulmonary emboli following an October 4 injury against the Los Angeles Rams.
The situation sparked controversy and prompted the NFLPA to demand a full investigation into player health negligence after Hurts was cleared to travel to London. While the Eagles defended their precautions, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also criticized league medical leadership. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell subsequently stated that the league welcomes the investigation into Hurts' medical care.
