The Story in 60 Seconds

Geoff Mosher reports that former Philadelphia Eagles assistant Christian Parker has struggled to turn around the Dallas Cowboys' defense in his first season as defensive coordinator. Despite Dallas overhauling its roster by acquiring Quinnen Williams, Joey Porter Jr., and rookie first-round safety Caleb Downs, the Cowboys sit at 2-4 and rank among the worst defenses in the NFL. The unit has allowed the second-most yards and seventh-most points through six games.

Mosher highlights severe issues on third downs, where Dallas ranks among the league's worst in EPA per play. Individual defenders have also struggled, with Downs allowing 16 catches on 17 targets for a 149.6 passer rating against, while cornerback Daron Bland holds the NFL's second-worst coverage EPA. Dallas recently hired senior defensive advisor Mike Pettine to consult and assist Parker ahead of their upcoming Monday night matchup against Philadelphia.
