Dana White, Islam Makhachev and Carlos Prates all commented on the surprising news of UFC 336's new interim title bout.
UFC CEO Dana White addressed the welterweight division after champion Islam Makhachev withdrew from his scheduled UFC 336 title bout against Carlos Prates. In response to Makhachev being unavailable for the January 30, 2027 event in Toronto, White stated that fighters cannot hold up weight divisions.
Following the champion's withdrawal, the UFC booked Carlos Prates against Michael Morales for an interim welterweight championship. Additionally, the event at Scotiabank Arena will feature a flyweight title headliner between champion Joshua Van and contender Manel Kape.
