Deshaun Watson could earn a contract extension with the Cleveland Browns following an encouraging start to the season, according to The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones. Watson has led the Browns to a 4-2 record with four game-winning drives in the final year of his five-year, $230 million contract. However, the report highlights that a lack of interest and starting options across the NFL could severely limit Watson's negotiating leverage.

Watson previously missed extensive time, including the entire 2025 season, due to a suspension, shoulder surgery, and two Achilles surgeries. Cleveland also holds two first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, providing general manager Andrew Berry with alternative options if they choose to pursue a younger quarterback instead.
