The Story in 60 Seconds

Shaun Rooney has reflected on his departure from St Mirren and his subsequent career revival at Fleetwood Town following his acquittal on assault charges. The 30-year-old full-back left the Scottish Premiership club after just 10 games following an incident at a Glasgow chip shop, but he was cleared of all charges 12 months later. Rooney revealed he never feared for his football future and quickly re-signed with Fleetwood after receiving contact from the club.

Since returning to Fleetwood, Rooney has signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until at least 2028. Playing under manager Matt Lawlor, Rooney has been appointed to the squad's leadership group and helped the side reach the Carabao Cup fourth round, setting up a home fixture against Arsenal. Rooney also stated he would not rule out an eventual return to Scottish football if the right opportunity arose.
