San Antonio didn’t dominate until it had to late in the game to put away an opponent missing its two best players.

The San Antonio Spurs secured their first victory of the season with a 122-106 road win against the shorthanded Dallas Mavericks. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks, while Dylan Harper added 22 points. The victory allowed San Antonio to avoid their first 0-3 start to an NBA season since 2008-09.
Dallas played without key contributors Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, leaving the Mavericks unable to match the Spurs' late surge. De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle each contributed 19 points for San Antonio, and head coach Mitch Johnson utilized rookie Tarris Reed Jr. off the bench during a pivotal fourth-quarter rotation shift.
