New York Yankees World Series MVP Hideki Matsui is the new manager of the Yomiuri Tigers, whom he played for before coming to MLB.

Former New York Yankees star Hideki Matsui was officially introduced as the new manager of the Yomiuri Giants on Friday night in Japan. Matsui steps into the role following a turbulent 2026 season for the Nippon Professional Baseball club, which saw manager Shinnosuke Abe resign in May after an arrest, followed by Hideki Hashigami managing the team on an interim basis.
Matsui spent 10 seasons with the Giants from 1993 to 2002, winning three Nippon Series titles before transitioning to Major League Baseball. In the United States, Matsui spent seven seasons with the Yankees, earning two All-Star selections and capturing the 2009 World Series MVP award.
