It was eighteen years ago today when the Phillies then catcher, Carlos Ruiz, cemented himself in history with a late-inning walk-off win during Game Three of the World Series.

Tori Sheffer reflects on Carlos Ruiz's memorable walk-off swinging bunt for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the 2008 World Series. Following a long rain delay that pushed first pitch past 10:00 pm, the Phillies and Rays battled to a 4-4 tie heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
After Eric Bruntlett reached base and advanced to third, Rays manager Joe Maddon deployed a five-man infield. Ruiz hit a soft dribbler down the third-base line, leading to an errant throw by Evan Longoria that allowed Bruntlett to score the winning run.
