Ethel Smith, the wife of late Scotland and Rangers manager Walter Smith, has nominated the cancer unit at Vale of Leven Hospital to receive a £50,000 donation in his memory. The contribution was gifted by the Emmie Smillie Foundation to thank the hospital staff for the care provided to Walter during his treatment. Ethel presented the cheque to Charge Nurse June Raines and former Clinical Nurse Specialist Gerry O’Hare.

The funds are earmarked to improve facilities and patient experiences at the haematology-oncology unit in Alexandria.
