Toto Wolff says Ferrari fans will start wearing Kimi Antonelli ‘caps’ when he’s the champion in 2027

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believes Italian Ferrari supporters will increasingly wear Kimi Antonelli merchandise as the Italian driver nears the Formula 1 title. Wolff noted that Antonelli's win from 19th at Monza left the traditional red-clad tifosi crowd confused to see an Italian driver winning for Mercedes. Following a dominant victory at the US Grand Prix, Antonelli holds a 123-point lead over teammate George Russell with only a top-nine finish needed in Mexico to clinch the championship.

Antonelli's breakout season features nine race victories, bringing him close to becoming Italy's first F1 champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953. Meanwhile, Ferrari sits second in the constructors' standings under Fred Vasseur with single wins for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, extending the team's championship drought to 19 years.
