Guardians hitting development coach Conner Watson is leaving for Houston, opening the door for the White Sox to take another step forward in the AL Central in 2027.
Cleveland Guardians Assistant Director of Hitting Development Conner Watson has left the organization after two seasons to become the Director of Hitting Development for the Houston Astros. Writer Noah Phalen argues this coaching departure could benefit the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central race heading into 2027.
Prior to his tenure in Cleveland, Watson served as the lead hitting coach at Driveline. Phalen notes that losing Watson's analytical approach to hitting development is a blow to Cleveland's young lineup, potentially widening the competitive window for a young White Sox roster that finished just one game behind the Guardians in 2026.
