Former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling argued that the UFC 333 bantamweight title fight between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili could have been scored a draw. Yan earned a unanimous decision victory over Dvalishvili in Abu Dhabi to win their trilogy matchup. Despite the judges' ruling, Sterling suggested that a 10-10 score in a pivotal third round would have resulted in an even outcome.
Sterling questioned the interpretation of scoring criteria on his YouTube channel, arguing that subjective scoring of damage overlooked Dvalishvili's volume. While Dvalishvili reportedly took the opening two rounds before Yan rallied in the championship rounds, Sterling acknowledged that the official decision favored Yan. A fourth fight appears improbable, leaving Yan potentially facing Sean O’Malley next.
