Good Morning San Diego: Padres are perfect fit for Luis Gil

Gaslamp Ball argues that New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil represents an ideal low-risk, high-reward trade target for the San Diego Padres this offseason. With San Diego potentially needing to fill up to five rotation spots, team president A.J. Preller is expected to prioritize starting pitching. The analysis notes that Gil appears to be the odd man out in New York after battling recent injuries.

The outlet suggests Padres pitching coach Ruben Niebla could help revive Gil's career by addressing mechanical flaws that emerged following lat and shoulder strains. After winning the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Award, Gil experienced a decline in fastball velocity and command, but the writer believes San Diego's coaching staff can restore his top-tier form.
