The New Jersey Devils are down to just four draft picks after the Luke Evangelista and Connor Hellebuyck trades. While in theory, this can be an issue for their long-term future, it isn't an issue that should impact them right…

Pucks and Pitchforks writer Nick Villano argues that having only four draft picks is not an immediate problem for the New Jersey Devils. Following major trades for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and forward Luke Evangelista, the Devils have entered a three-game winning streak and returned to a playoff spot, making immediate contention their primary priority.
Villano notes that New Jersey still retains two first-round selections and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft. Additionally, the improved development of young prospects such as Ben Kevan, Conrad Fondrk, and Lavr Gashilov gives the organization enough organizational depth to justify moving future mid-round assets.
