Find out how close USWNT star got to winning the Ballon d'Or Féminin.

USWNT and Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle finished in 27th place in the 2026 Ballon d'Or Féminin voting. Lavelle was the only American nominated among the 30 candidates for the prestigious award, which was won by Spain's Alexia Putellas for the third time in her career.
Lavelle earned her nomination primarily through her club success with Gotham FC, where she recovered from an ankle injury to score the winning goal in their 1-0 championship victory over the Washington Spirit. The writer notes that Megan Rapinoe remains the only American winner of the award, having won in 2019.
