The New York Jets avoided being on the receiving end of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza's first NFL start in Week 8.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak announced that veteran Kirk Cousins will remain the starting quarterback for Week 8 against the New York Jets, keeping No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza on the bench as the backup.
The Jet Press's Mike Luciano argues that facing Cousins instead of Mendoza may benefit the struggling Jets defense, though he notes Cousins could be on a short leash if the Raiders' offense sputters.
