Joel Hofer is the Blues starter, but Jordan Binnington must play well as the backup so St. Louis can handle a long season and stay in the playoff race.

Bleedin' Blue's Michael Meyer argues that the St. Louis Blues' playoff aspirations rely heavily on goaltender Jordan Binnington succeeding in a backup role. Although Joel Hofer has claimed the starting job following an opening-night shutout, Meyer contends that no single goalie can endure an 84-game schedule without risk of fatigue or injury.
Binnington, who is 33 years old and in the final year of his contract, has started slowly this season. Meyer notes that the Blues must manage Hofer's workload and help Binnington find his rhythm to keep postseason hopes alive.
