The Texas Rangers must find a platoon partner for Evan Carter this offseason, and while two veterans make sense, they'd be wise to avoid the market's biggest name.

Stephen Parello of Nolan Writin' argues that the Texas Rangers should sign a right-handed-hitting platoon partner to complement center fielder Evan Carter in 2027. Carter struggled offensively in 2026, batting just .194 overall with a .329 OPS against left-handed pitchers across 141 games. Parello suggests pairing him with a free agent rather than moving Wyatt Langford to center field.
Parello recommends targeting Tyrone Taylor and Lane Thomas, noting both hitters have established strong records against southpaws. Conversely, the writer urges Rangers executive Chris Young to avoid signing Luis Robert Jr., citing his recent injury history, declining production, and lack of lineup stability.
