The Houston Astros have now installed a new director of hitting and a director of pitching, but have yet to hire a general manager. What gives?

The Houston Astros have hired Conner Watson as their new director of hitting, replacing Dan Hennington. Watson previously spent two seasons serving as the assistant director of hitting for the Cleveland Guardians and brings an analytics-driven approach to the position. The move follows Houston's recent addition of Spencer Medick as another director of hitting.
MLB insider Robert Murray noted that owner Jim Crane's decision to make coaching hires before appointing a general manager or manager is raising eyebrows across baseball. Candidates mentioned for Houston's vacant general manager role include Milwaukee Brewers assistant general manager Matt Kleine and Mike Rizzo.
