Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has defended George Russell's future world championship prospects following critical remarks from former Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko. Speaking ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Marko claimed that Russell was no longer Mercedes' lead driver and doubted he would ever get another chance to fight for an F1 title.
Wolff rejected Marko's comments after the race in Austin, stating that Marko was wrong and that the current car simply does not suit Russell. Wolff affirmed that Russell has all the required ability to win a championship once provided with a quick car, highlighting his extensive junior racing pedigree.
