NASCAR Cup Series driver Zane Smith criticized the racing at the YellaWood 500 at Talladega, describing it as "a boring day" due to extensive fuel-saving tactics. Smith stated cars were running at quarter-throttle during the slow start in stage one following NASCAR's updated rules and stage lengths. Despite suffering a blown right rear tire that put him laps down, the Front Row Motorsports driver salvaged a 19th-place finish.
Other competitors also voiced frustration over the reduced speeds, with Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney criticizing the slow-paced racing. In contrast, RFK Racing drivers Brad Keselowski, Ryan Preece, and Chris Buescher ran full throttle to sweep the top three in stage one. Kyle Larson ultimately earned his first career superspeedway victory, widening his championship lead amid multiple wrecks.
