France could extend its lead as the country with the most unique Ballon d'Or recipients if Kylian Mbappé wins the 2026 trophy in London. The Real Madrid forward and French national team captain has been a regular contender over recent years but has never previously won the award.
France currently holds the record with six different winners, following Ousmane Dembélé's victory in 2025 alongside past recipients Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Zinédine Zidane, and Karim Benzema. A victory for Mbappé would increase France's total to seven distinct winners, moving further ahead of Germany and Italy.
