The reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks, claimed their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 111-97 victory over the previously undefeated Detroit Pistons. After trailing by 13 points at the end of the first quarter, New York dominated the middle periods, outscoring Detroit 63-25 across the second and third quarters to avoid starting the season with four straight defeats.
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 27 points and 20 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson sparked an 11-0 run in the third quarter to pull away. Head coach Mike Brown praised the team's improved energy and physicality while noting that the squad still has areas to build upon as the season progresses.
