Matthew Scahefer continues to set records, becoming the first ever player to play all five minutes of an overtime period…

New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer set a post-2004 lockout NHL record by playing all five minutes of overtime in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Nashville Predators. The 19-year-old took the ice to start the 3-on-3 period and drew a tripping penalty on Nashville's Ryan O'Reilly just 30 seconds into play.
After a 1:47 delayed penalty with goaltender Semyon Varlamov pulled, Islanders head coach Peter DeBoer utilized a timeout to rest Schaefer before keeping him deployed for the ensuing power play through the end of overtime. Schaefer finished the contest with 32:16 of ice time.
