Bringing back Buckner made too much sense, but the 49ers still might seek more help at pass rusher, and perhaps other positions, too.

The San Francisco 49ers acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. Two days after suffering their first loss of the season, general manager John Lynch made the move to bolster San Francisco's injury-depleted defensive line. Buckner recorded 31 tackles and four sacks in seven games for Indianapolis this season.
Writer Matt Barrows argues the 6-1 49ers have signaled an all-in mentality for 2026 and could pursue further moves before the November 10 deadline. With over $30 million in cap space, Barrows suggests San Francisco could explore additions at edge rusher or cornerback as players recover from injuries.
