The Story in 60 Seconds

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio has seized an unexpected opportunity, helping the defense shut down the New Orleans Saints in Week 7. Pittsburgh earned a 16-10 victory in Paris, France, holding the Saints to just 18 rushing yards. Rubio stepped into a larger role along the defensive front after interior linemen Derrick Harmon and Sebastian Joseph-Day were both placed on Injured Reserve.

Rubio, a 2026 sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame, recorded two tackles across 14 defensive snaps while effectively clogging running lanes. Steeler Nation notes that Rubio has played well enough over the last three games to potentially keep an active role even after Harmon becomes eligible to return from Injured Reserve.
