After a frustrating loss in Nashville, the Avalanche answered with a four-goal third period against New Jersey, giving Jared Bednar a glimpse of the self-motivated response he expects from his veteran group.

The Colorado Avalanche rebounded from a tough loss in Nashville by scoring four goals in the third period to defeat the New Jersey Devils 5-2 on Tuesday night. Head coach Jared Bednar praised the response from his veteran squad, having recently highlighted Bill Belichick's philosophy of seeking self-motivated individuals who understand how to correct their play without constant prodding.
Gabriel Landeskog tied the score in the second period before Colorado killed off a 5-on-3 power play early in the third. Nazem Kadri, Parker Kelly, Nathan MacKinnon, and Jaden Schwartz then scored consecutive goals to seal the win, while Connor Brown tallied twice for New Jersey. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 15 saves for Colorado, and Jake Allen stopped 36 shots for the Devils.
