This is one in a series of stories breaking down PBN’s Top 30 Pirates prospects. No Pirates prospect this season…

Murf Gray has been ranked as the Pittsburgh Pirates' No. 3 prospect by Pittsburgh Baseball Now following a breakout first professional season. The 22-year-old was named the organization's minor-league player of the year after advancing from Low-A Bradenton to Double-A Altoona. Across 126 games with three affiliates, the Fresno State draft pick batted .305 with 32 home runs and 97 RBI.
While Gray's offensive performance was dominant, writer Danny Demilio notes his long-term defensive position remains uncertain after he committed 12 errors at third base. Demilio reports that Gray plans to focus on defense during the offseason and suggests Gray could potentially make his Major League debut with Pittsburgh at some point next season.
