The Buffalo Bills have rely on James Cook more than any other team relies on a single running back, and should attempt to reduce his workload to keep him fresh, make the most of his extension, and give Ty Johnson…

Writer Colin Richey argues that the Buffalo Bills must reduce running back James Cook's heavy workload to protect his long-term effectiveness. Cook has logged 117 rushing attempts this season, compared to just five for Ray Davis, two for Ty Johnson, and one for Frank Gore Jr. Richey highlights that this 23.4 to 1 ratio drastically exceeds the league median ratio of 2.6 to 1.
Richey contends that diversifying carries will keep Cook fresh for late-season playoff football while protecting Buffalo's financial investment following his four-year extension. He also notes that backups Davis and Johnson are capable options running behind an offensive line ranked second in ESPN's run-block win rate.
