Tottenham Hotspur have been impressed by a young South American starlet, but their pursuit of the player has got a lot harder over the last…

Tottenham Hotspur's reported interest in River Plate starlet Lautaro Pereyra prompted the Argentine club to secure the midfielder on a new long-term deal. Following an inquiry from Spurs, River Plate moved quickly to sign the 18-year-old to a contract running through 2029 that includes a €100m (£83.7m) release clause.
Managed by Leonardo Ponzio, Pereyra has impressed with his versatility across midfield, attack, and wing-back positions. Although Tottenham reportedly remain interested in the Argentina Under-17 international, a permanent transfer has become significantly more difficult, requiring direct negotiations with River Plate president Stéfano Di Carlo.
