Anthony Edwards’ knee injury could reshape his next Timberwolves contract decision, with tens of millions potentially hanging in the balance.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards faces an upcoming knee surgery that could cost him an estimated $43 million in potential extension value. Under NBA rules, players must typically play in 65 regular-season games to be eligible for major awards like All-NBA or MVP. An expected two-month absence would prevent Edwards from reaching that threshold, leaving him unable to qualify for a four-year, $304 million supermax extension next summer.
Timberwolves president Tim Connelly confirmed that Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic knee cleanup following recent imaging changes, emphasizing that the player's long-term health is the team's top priority. Edwards could still opt to sign a standard maximum extension projected at $261 million or wait until a future season to re-qualify for the higher supermax tier.
