Hornets star forward Naz Reid was benched in the second half on Wednesday because he "didn't meet our standard" of play.

Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee benched forward Naz Reid for the entire second half of Wednesday's 97-89 loss to the Detroit Pistons. Lee explained the decision by stating that Reid failed to meet the team's standards of play during the first half. Reid appeared confused during play signals from Lee late in the second quarter and finished the game with seven points in 13 minutes.
Without Reid on the court, the Hornets were outscored 53-38 in the second half after holding a 51-44 halftime lead. Reid, who joined Charlotte in June via a blockbuster trade that sent LaMelo Ball to Minnesota, is averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds across his first five games for the franchise.
