The Lakers starting center took ownership of the team's defensive performances.

Los Angeles Lakers center Walker Kessler took responsibility for the team's defensive struggles following a 136-129 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. Kessler noted that his coach described him as the "linebacker" of the defense, leading him to hold himself accountable after the Lakers suffered their first defeat of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Portland scored at least 32 points in every quarter, shooting 59% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. The setback marked the third straight contest where Los Angeles allowed at least 117 points, causing the team's defensive rating to drop from No. 19 to No. 22.
