White Sox bench coach Walker McKinven was reportedly a candidate for the Mariners managerial opening, but is no longer in the running, giving the White Sox good news about their coaching staff.

Chicago White Sox bench coach Walker McKinven is no longer being considered for the Seattle Mariners managerial vacancy, according to a report from The Seattle Times. The Mariners have reportedly narrowed their search down to two finalists: former Houston Astros manager Joe Espada and Chicago Cubs director of player development Jason Kanzler.
White Sox general manager Chris Getz previously expressed an intention to retain the entire 2026 coaching staff under manager Will Venable. While writer Noah Phalen notes McKinven could potentially draw interest from other clubs such as the Astros, McKinven's elimination from Seattle's search increases the likelihood of his return to Chicago.
