The San Francisco Giants have initiated roster adjustments by removing five players from their 40-man roster shortly after the conclusion of the World Series. Matt Gage, Osleivis Basabe, and Jason Foley cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A. Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers, and the Washington Nationals claimed right-handed pitcher Braxton Roxby.
These initial roster moves reduced the Giants' total count from 55 players to 52 as players return from the injured list. Writer Bryan Murphy notes that the front office must trim at least 12 more players over the next several days to satisfy the 40-man roster limit before making upcoming Rule 5 Draft protection decisions.
