Falcons 2027 free agent check-in: Cameron Thomas goes quiet, Jessie Bates shines

Following a 29-20 upset over the San Francisco 49ers, Jason Kandel analyzes the future of several upcoming Atlanta Falcons free agents. Kandel argues that safety Jessie Bates III has earned a contract extension after forcing two crucial turnovers. In contrast, edge rusher Cameron Thomas failed to record a single pressure in 41 snaps, making a potential extension less certain.

The article also assesses other defensive contributors, claiming rookie linebackers Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins Jr. played well enough in Divine Deablo's absence to justify letting Deablo walk in free agency. Additionally, Kandel suggests extending defensive tackle LaCale London over Zach Harrison due to London's elite run defense metrics.
