The Story in 60 Seconds

Australia coach Les Kiss has confirmed that veteran playmaker Kurtley Beale is in contention for a spot in next year's Rugby World Cup squad. The 37-year-old was handed a surprise recall for the Wallabies' upcoming spring tour Tests against England, Scotland, and Wales, followed by the Nations Championship finals. Beale joins the squad after midfielder Hunter Paisami withdrew due to personal reasons, putting the 95-cap back in line for his first international appearance since 2021.

Kiss stated that Beale is selected to perform and build depth at flyhalf rather than merely fill a temporary gap. The coach also revealed that back-rower Tom Hooper has received scan clearance following a shoulder scare and will participate in the tour, which begins against England on November 8.
