The Philadelphia Flyers have been linked to defensemen Zach Whitecloud of the Calgary Flames and Simon Edvinsson of the Detroit Red Wings, according to a report from Frank Seravalli of SportsNet. Head coach Rick Tocchet recently voiced frustration regarding the team's defensive effort following a loss to the Washington Capitals, prompting expectations of in-season roster moves.
Whitecloud has two seasons remaining on a contract carrying a $2.75 million annual cap hit, while the 23-year-old Edvinsson remains an unsigned restricted free agent who must sign by December 1 to play this season. Seravalli reported that Philadelphia has checked in on Edvinsson, though the Red Wings reportedly prefer to keep the Swedish defenseman.
