Newly hired Baltimore Orioles general manager Jared Banner is actively connecting with franchise icon Cal Ripken Jr. to learn the club's culture. Banner, hired on Oct. 19, interviewed with Ripken during the hiring process and met him for lunch to maintain ongoing dialogue. Ripken, a Hall of Famer and minority owner, took on a hands-on player development role earlier this year.
Banner has also reached out to other key figures, including manager Craig Albernaz, Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer, and special advisor Adam Jones. President of baseball operations Mike Elias stated that Ripken and coordinator Mike Shildt have bolstered team fundamentals, an initiative Banner aims to accelerate moving into next season.
