Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli is on the verge of making Formula One history at the Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City. The 20-year-old Italian will secure the drivers' world championship if he finishes ninth or better on Sunday at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. A title win would make Antonelli the youngest world champion in Formula One history and the first Italian champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
Antonelli rebounded from a challenging rookie campaign by excelling under the new energy-managed regulations, securing five consecutive early victories and outperforming teammate George Russell. Guided by engineer Peter Bonnington and team principal Toto Wolff, Antonelli enters the celebratory Day of the Dead race weekend with a dominant lead and four races remaining.
