With Tatsuya Imai opting in to his 2027 contract with the Astros, White Sox fans should be breathing a sign of relief that the rumors of their interest weren't true.

Noah Phalen of Southside Showdown argues that Chicago White Sox supporters should be relieved the team avoided signing pitcher Tatsuya Imai last offseason. After being linked to Chicago, Imai signed with the Houston Astros and subsequently endured an inconsistent 2026 rookie campaign marked by arm fatigue, command problems, and a move to the bullpen.
Following his struggles, Imai chose not to exercise his opt-out clause and will remain with Houston on an $18 million salary for 2027. Phalen contends that avoiding this costly deal spares the White Sox financial flexibility in free agency, warning against the risks of signing talent untested at the major league level.
