Unbeaten colt Hughes established himself as an early Kentucky Derby favorite by capturing the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Keeneland on Friday. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by jockey Flavien Prat, the even-money favorite pulled away through the far turn to secure a 2 1/4-length victory over American History.
Hughes completed the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:42.27 to remain undefeated in five career starts. Todd Pletcher-trained American History finished second, while another Baffert entry, Salahudin, took third in the eight-horse field.
