The Arizona Diamondbacks will hire San Diego Padres bullpen coach Ben Fritz as their new pitching coach, according to a report by Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Fritz replaces Brian Kaplan, who parted ways with Arizona after nearly two years. Fritz has been part of the Padres' organization since 2015 and served as their bullpen coach starting in 2020, while also occasionally handling interim pitching coach duties.
Fritz becomes the fifth pitching coach under manager Torey Lovullo since 2017. He is expected to work alongside returning assistant pitching coach Owen Dew and bullpen coach Wellington Cepeda for the 2027 season, with Jim McLennan noting key priorities will include working with starting pitchers Merrill Kelly and Corbin Burnes.
