A familiar smile made a somewhat unlikely return to the big leagues with the Atlanta Braves behind the plate, as a spate of injuries caused the Braves to reach deep into their catcher depth chart before Memorial Day. How Acquired…

Battery Power evaluated catcher Chadwick Tromp's 2026 campaign with the Atlanta Braves, where he briefly returned to the majors amid catching injuries. Tromp made 12 appearances and six starts for Atlanta, batting .200/.192/.240 with -0.1 fWAR across 27 plate appearances. His primary highlight came on May 22 against the Washington Nationals, when he delivered an extra-inning run-scoring hit and an 11th-inning walk-off single.
Tromp struggled afterward, managing just one hit across his final nine games before Atlanta designated him for assignment on June 4. He subsequently played nine games for the Baltimore Orioles before finishing the season in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization at Triple-A. The writer notes that Tromp remains a viable veteran depth option who could potentially return to Atlanta in 2027.
