The Houston Astros hired St. Louis Cardinals executive Randy Flores as general manager Friday.

The Houston Astros have hired former St. Louis Cardinals executive Randy Flores as their new general manager. Flores, 51, becomes the 15th general manager in franchise history, succeeding Dana Brown, who was dismissed by the club in August.
Flores spent eight seasons as an assistant general manager in St. Louis and pitched for eight seasons in the major leagues. The Astros will formally introduce him on Monday as they continue their offseason search for a new manager.
