Freshman quarterback Paytyn Guess rallies the Monarchs with two touchdowns in the final four minutes as Mater Dei claims second place in the Trinity League.

Mater Dei completed a dramatic 36-35 comeback victory over rival St. John Bosco at Santa Ana Stadium, clinching second place in the Trinity League. Facing a 35-21 deficit with under five minutes remaining, freshman quarterback Paytyn Guess led two late scoring drives. After throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Tristan Brown with 13 seconds left, Mater Dei opted for a two-point conversion, which sophomore tight end Tyler Fritz secured for the win.
Guess finished the night with 214 passing yards and three touchdowns, along with two rushing scores. St. John Bosco quarterback Koa Malau'ulu threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. The result means neither program will earn the No. 1 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs for the first time since 2015.
