The Kansas City Royals made the smart decision to exercise Tony Gonsolin's team option; he is the perfect low-risk, high-reward option in their rotation.

Brian Burrows of Kings of Kauffman argues that the Kansas City Royals made a wise move by exercising their $2.5 million team option on pitcher Tony Gonsolin for the 2027 season. After signing Gonsolin to a one-year deal in August to finish his rehab, the Royals retained the veteran right-hander to potentially bolster the back of their starting rotation.
Burrows notes that despite a lengthy injury history that includes Tommy John surgery, Gonsolin offers high upside relative to his low salary. With rotation spots open alongside Michael Wacha, Seth Lugo, and Noah Cameron, Burrows views Gonsolin as a low-risk gamble capable of elevating the pitching staff.
