ESPN's way-too-early 2027 power rankings have the White Sox finishing third in the AL Central and taking a step back from their remarkable 2026 run.

Noah Phalen of Southside Showdown argues that ESPN disrespectfully projected the Chicago White Sox to decline in 2027 despite a 24-win improvement in 2026. ESPN's early power rankings placed the White Sox at 13th, behind multiple non-playoff teams. ESPN writer David Schoenfeld cited the 'Plexiglas Principle,' pitching concerns, and high strikeout rates as reasons for a potential regression following their 84-win postseason campaign.
Phalen contends the ranking fails to account for the upcoming offseason, noting general manager Chris Getz plans to address pitching needs. While acknowledging offensive strikeout issues and the looming departures of Sean Newcomb and Randal Grichuk, Phalen argues Chicago's young roster deserves the benefit of the doubt.
