Athletics right-hander Luis Severino will exercise his $22 million player option to stay with the team for the 2027 season, avoiding free agency. The decision keeps the veteran pitcher in Sacramento for the final season of his three-year, $67 million contract.
Severino pitched to a 4.16 ERA across 12 starts in 2026 before suffering a season-ending shoulder strain in late May. Over two seasons with the Athletics, he has posted a 4.43 ERA in 41 starts while displaying stark splits, including a significantly lower 3.14 ERA in away games.
